This is really interesting, there is a lot of push back from employees today because they don’t get to telecommute as much as they would like. I partially understand this position, there are a lot of positives and negatives to telecommuting. When I would telecommute in years past I found that I focused more, I worked longer hours and in general was happier. But the negatives I have found is the company I work for isn’t in a position to defeat the negatives, the down side that stands out in my mind is it generates even more silo’d knowledge. Yes, you get more out of a telecommuting employee in general, but you lose that communication and collaboration… which is what this movement is all about.
